Steve has been involved in human factors education and teamwork training for twenty-five years in the US Navy, commercial airline industry, and the healthcare industry. He founded HTT, a human factors-based training and patient safety consulting company, in 2004. His operational experience includes flying as a pilot in the U.S. Navy and Delta Airlines. He has authored numerous training curricula in aviation & patient safety including the MD88/90 advanced qualification program. Steve was a member of the team that developed the award-winning Patient Safety Manager Course and TeamSTEPPSĀ® - Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety for the the Military Health System. Steve is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate safety school where he was trained in accident investigation techniques including root cause analysis. He is an experienced multi-fidelity simulation developer, facilitator and evaluator in aviation and healthcare. Steve regularly provides patient safety training, consulting & coaching to healthcare leadership and clinical teams in civilian and military healthcare organizations worldwide. He has authored numerous articles on human factors, change management, team performance and patient safety. He earned a Masters in Human Factors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Steve is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychologists, the Clinical Human Factor Group, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Steve has served as a member of the Technical Expert Panel for TeamSTEPPSĀ® for the Department of Defense since 2006. He also serves as a Board member for the North Carolina Center for Hospital Quality and Patient Safety.
