The Role of General Aviation Training in Airline Safety

Neil C. Krey

From the use of contemporary avionics to preparing pilots for service on airline flight decks, the general aviation training system is under a level of scrutiny that it has rarely seen. This presentation examines the disparities in the safety records of general aviation and the airlines, and the roles of FAA, universities, flight schools and individual flight instructors in addressing them. Ideas for improving the performance of the general aviation training system are explored.
